SATTRACK
SATTRACK
SatTrack is a solar-powered, automated system for capturing satellite imagery using software-defined radio (SDR) and a Raspberry Pi. The project explores the intersection of sustainable energy, radio technology, and space observation — making satellite data accessible through a low-cost, DIY setup.
PROCESS
The system uses a Raspberry Pi paired with an RTL-SDR dongle to receive signals from NOAA weather satellites as they pass overhead. A solar panel and battery bank power the entire setup, making it deployable in remote locations without grid access. An Arduino manages the power distribution and monitors battery health.
WEBSITE
A companion web app built with Node.js displays captured satellite images, tracks upcoming passes, and provides real-time system status. The site serves as both a documentation hub and a live dashboard for the SatTrack station.
TEAM
SatTrack was developed collaboratively, combining expertise in hardware engineering, radio frequency communication, and web development.
